The First-Timer's Indian Wedding Guest Kit

Invited to an Indian wedding and you have no idea what to wear? This is the product: a complete, event-ready outfit — the clothes plus the pieces everyone forgets — for $150 to $250, sorted in about twenty minutes in our store.

No research required. No ordering from overseas and hoping. Walk in, tell us about the event, walk out dressed.

What’s in the kit

For women — the outfit, picked with you: a sari (gold foil and hakoba $50 or less, silk from $200), a salwar kameez (from $100), or a lehenga (from $200). Plus the pieces first-timers never know they need: the petticoat ($15) and sari fall ($3) if it’s a sari, the dupatta, and accessories — bangles, a tikka — to finish it.

For men — a kurta pajama ($75 to $125). Add a Nehru vest (from $100) and it moves up a level for the reception. Mojari shoes ($75 to $100) if you want the full thing.

Most kits land between $150 and $250 all in. That’s the number to plan around.

How it works

  1. Bring the invitation. Or DM a photo of it to @loveleensari on Instagram first and we’ll pull options before you arrive.
  2. Tell us the events. Ceremony, sangeet, reception — the dress code shifts by event, and we’ll tell you what’s what.
  3. Twenty minutes later, you’re done. Tried on, fitted, event-ready. This is what we do all day.

Why it works for first-timers

  • You don’t need to know anything. Most of our first-timer customers arrive knowing nothing. That’s the normal starting point, not a problem.
  • Nobody will quiz you. Guests going to their first Indian wedding come through all year. There’s no vocabulary test at the door.
  • The couple will be pleased. Turning up in Indian clothes reads as respect, not costume. Can I wear Indian clothes as a non-Indian guest?

I don’t know which events I’m invited to — the invitation is confusing.
Bring it in or DM us a photo. We read invitations with guests every week and we’ll tell you which events matter and what each one calls for.

Is it weird for a non-Indian guest to wear Indian clothes?
No — it’s welcome. The short answer is yes, wear them; the couple will almost always be pleased.

Can I order the kit online?
We’re an in-person store — the point is trying things on. DM us on Instagram first and we’ll have options pulled when you arrive.

What about the gift — how much cash do I give?

I need outfits for multiple events.
Common. Tell us which events when you come in — we’ll build you two or three looks that don’t repeat, usually still within a sane budget.

What kinds of saris do you carry?
Silk saris (from $200), gold foil saris ($50 or less), and hakoba saris ($50 or less) — plus everyday cottons and party-wear. Everything is on the rack in our Artesia store, so you can see the fabric and try it on before you buy.
